Important information you need to know about BC Provincial Examination reform and UBC Admission Reform in Canada!
1. When are the BC exams usually taken?
The provincial exams for BC courses are held four times a year and the main one is held in late June. Because it can apply for the most complete subjects, all universities must receive the provincial exam results in August. The other three exams are in January, April and August.
2. The credit system in Canadian high schools
3. Important Courses:
Canadian high school students need more than 80 credits to graduate. There are also specific course requirements on top of those 80 credits, which are as follows:
■ At least 16 credits must be completed in grade 12 (including Language Arts 12)
The 4 credits obtained from Graduation Transitions is not counted.
■ All students must choose to take an art or applied technology course.
■ International students must take the following courses guided by BC certified teachers to earn credits:
Language Arts 11, Language Arts 12, One of Science 11 or 12, One of Mathematics 11 or 12, Social Studies 11, and Planning 10.
In addition, students can receive additional credits from the following:
- International students who have completed 7th, 8th and 9th grades in China can earn a total of 12 credits (Grades 10, 11 and 12)
- Students can earn 12 credits from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music.
- International students can earn credits from the following items: (2-4 credits for each level)
Lorita Leung Dance Association,
Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing,
Cecchetti Ballet,
National Association of Teachers of Dancing
The Royal Academy of Dance- Ballet- (2 -4 credits for each grade level).
4. Reform of University of British Columbia Admission Standards
A) UBC examines all of the students' grades 11 and 12 level courses, requiring at least 6 grade 12 courses.
B) UBC application process does not focus on non-academic courses such as those in: design, applied skills, technology, sports, career planning, etc.
